I’D LIKE TO GET SOMETHING MADE,

How do I commission a piece?

1. Enquiry

You have some old jewellery? Drop me an email and I’ll set up a call as soon as possible so that we can figure out what’s what. You might have some existing jewellery but not sure if it will be enough for a remake? How much is gold vs silver? We can talk it all through.

2. Design Discussion

Now we’re talking! At this stage, you think you might want to get a piece made, we’ve spoken about what you have in mind (remake/remodel, personalised gift, anniversary present etc) and the style. At this point we’ll both share images on Pinterest to identify your personal design language. OR You can hand me some old jewellery and say, ‘Make me something!’

3. Contract

Now that we’ve got the design direction sorted, I’ve got enough information to write up an agreement. In the agreement I’ll outline the design, timeframe, quote, and any additional information. Once this is signed, I’ll ask for a deposit. This will typically be 50% of the agreed price. At this point you’ll send/give me your pieces if you’re having items remodelled.

4. Work Begins

The project steps will be in the contract, but typically there are likely to be stages of metal testing, prototyping, melting of metals and some making/remodeling. I’ll keep a photo record of your project and send you updates of your piece in the making!

5. It’s all yours!

Your finished piece may need hallmarking. This is a legal requirement for certain items and certain metals. This involves me sending the piece to the Assay office in London. Here they will test the metal and add a purity mark as well as my maker’s mark! After I’ve received it back and given it a final polish, I’ll request the remaining payment and then deliver your new jewellery, preferably by hand or if not, by registered courier.
